Durkan Design & Build have been providing bespoke carpentry in Bristol and the surrounding area since 2004. The company was established by Matthew Durkan, who has more than 25 years’ experience in the trade, specialising in the design and build of high-quality fitted furniture.

A focus on classic design and traditional construction methods, combined with modern, sustainable materials, results in furniture built to last.

Our aim is to create pieces that feel truly at home in their surroundings — furniture that looks as though it has always belonged there.

We believe that, for your home, a hand-painted finish is essential.

All materials selected are of the highest quality and are carefully chosen for their intended purpose. As standard, all our carcasses are constructed from FSC-approved oak-veneered poplar plywood. All drawers are made from solid wood and are dovetail-jointed, using responsibly sourced timber.

We’re Hiring – Self-Employed Carpenters

Durkan Design & Build is looking for skilled, self-employed carpenters to assist with the installation of bespoke fitted furniture.

Based in Bristol, the role will involve working primarily in customers’ homes, so applicants must be polite, professional, and well presented. Own transport is essential.

Work is offered on an ad hoc, project-by-project basis, with jobs booked in advance and plenty of notice provided. We offer competitive rates of pay depending on experience, along with regular opportunities and the flexibility to fit around your existing schedule.

OUR PROCESS

Projects typically begin with a site visit to discuss your ideas and requirements, and to look at the space where your bespoke fitted furniture is to be built. We will then provide a no-obligation quote and an idea of timescales, usually within 48 hours.

If you are happy to proceed, we will then begin work on an initial design. When drawings are ready we will contact you to arrange a second site visit. Any necessary changes to the design can then be made, and the finer details discussed. Drawings will then be submitted to you for sign-off, and the exact installation date will be arranged.

As much of the work as possible will be done in our Bristol workshop to cut down on installation time and reduce inconvenience to you at home or work.

When your project is ready, we will install it on site.
