Durkan Design & Build have been providing bespoke carpentry in Bristol and the surrounding area since 2004. The company was established by Matthew Durkan, who has more than 25 years’ experience in the trade, specialising in the design and build of high-quality fitted furniture.
A focus on classic design and traditional construction methods, combined with modern, sustainable materials, results in furniture built to last.
Our aim is to create pieces that feel truly at home in their surroundings — furniture that looks as though it has always belonged there.
We believe that, for your home, a hand-painted finish is essential.
All materials selected are of the highest quality and are carefully chosen for their intended purpose. As standard, all our carcasses are constructed from FSC-approved oak-veneered poplar plywood. All drawers are made from solid wood and are dovetail-jointed, using responsibly sourced timber.

We’re now also offering a supply-only service for trade and private clients, manufacturing high-quality bespoke fitted furniture for carpenters, joiners, interior designers, architects and homeowners.
If you have a project that requires bespoke fitted furniture, we can take care of the design and manufacturing, leaving you to handle the installation.
We can work from your drawings and specifications, or help develop the design with you.
You provide the measurements.
We design and manufacture it.
You install it.
For trade clients, our supply-only service provides a cost-effective way to offer bespoke furniture while keeping installation in-house.
For private clients, taking care of the installation yourself can reduce long lead times and help keep the overall project cost down.
Our full design, manufacture and installation service is still available for clients who would prefer us to take care of the entire project.
